Which Home Business is Right for You?

by MichaelHizer

Okay, you've decided that you'd like to join the growing group of individuals who've opened their own home business. It's a great decision and I'm certain that you will soon see why so many people have decided to follow the same path. However, you're probably wondering to yourself what type of business you should start. There are dozens of options available but I'm going to focus on two of the most popular types - reselling products and affiliate marketing.

I'm most familiar with the affiliate marketing aspect of home business because this is the area that I specialize in. Affiliate marketing is nice because you do not actually have to handle any physical products. Your main goal is to act as an advertiser for a particular company or for a general group of products. You will want to direct people to your website so that they may purchase products or services. You will then be paid a percentage or fixed amount for your assistance to the sponsoring company. For instance, one of the websites I run is devoted to the acquisition of new insurance clients. I am paid a small amount by the insurance companies when a potential client submits their information for a quote. However, if that same individual purchases a policy, I receive a portion of that purchase as well. Affiliate marketing typically works best if you have your own website but it can be done by placing ads and referring people through PPC programs. It's a great way to get started if you're not 100% familiar with the internet and its usage. Often times, you can even find companies that will provide you with a free website

Another option when starting a home business is to resell products for profit. My suggestion for anyone starting a new home business engaging in the reselling of products is to first find a niche market you are interested in. This could be any topic from sports to clothes. Personally, my first website was devoted to golf and its thousands of products. Once you have a niche market picked out you should make a list of all the associated products in that niche. For instance, using my first website as an example, I would list golf clubs, golf balls, tees, clothes, shoes, etc. This doesn't have to be an exhaustive list, just something to get your mind going.

After you've selected a niche and made a list of appropriate topics it's time to begin researching the products that are available for you to resell. Use a search engine to find companies that will sell you merchandise for resale. You might also try using a local method such as garage and estate sales. I know many individuals that make a significant income by reselling collectibles and other merchandise purchased at garage sales. Remember, it's true that someone's trash is another's treasure!

No matter which of these options appears most interesting, starting your own home business can be extremely rewarding. For more information on a home business opportunity you can start with no initial investment visit http://www.sfihome.com.
