Before you start coughing up objections and rebutting what I've just said, let me tell you something: 95% of new home business startups end up not making it. That's right, 95 out of every 100 attempts by an optimistic, budding, would be stay-at-home business owner never do makes it to the point where he/she is earning a nice little income.
Here's another statistic that'll knock you back a bit: 90% of these eager "I'm going to quit my job real soon" beavers never reach the point where they are earning $1,000 a month. Don't tell me your successful at running your own business if you're not even making a grand a month. Yeah, quit your day job on that income, pal!
Look, here's an important point. You want to know why the statistics are so dismal for folks looking to get into a home based business? There are two main reasons (and believe me, these 2 reasons cover a lot of ground).
1. Most of the so called "business opportunities" you see, especially on the internet are Junk! 2. Most would-be "opportunity-seekers" who want to make some money are ignorant, lazy and stupid.
Uh, oh. By now you either think I have some knowledge of what I'm talking about, or you think I'm an idiot. Well, you're right...I know what I'm talking about.
But please, allow me to explain. I have researched home based business opportunities for nearly 20 years; and I've made and extensive study of internet business opportunities in particular. Most of what you see "offered" is junk. It's junk for this reason: if you think you're going to come out from nowhere, I don't care if you flip hamburgers or you warm a large seat in a large office at a large company; if you think you are going to jump on the internet, spot a "great opportunity" and in a couple of months make a fortune...then you are either ignorant, lazy or stupid...which takes me to point 2.
Yep, that's right. The appeal of these so called opportunities is to try and make a foolish person part with their money by making them think that with very little effort they too "can be making $10,000 a month...in a short period of time." What a bunch of garbage. That deceitful approach will only appeal to a lazy, stupid person...Anyone with some intelligence will laugh, slough it off and move on.
To make it in your own business, I mean make it in the sense that your business is real (ie, making money and growing), requires a couple of foundational pillars.
First, when you're looking for something to do, find something that interests you; not necessarily something that you think will make you rich. That's right, something that really grabs your interest. The reasons are obvious, but for sure you'll want to be involved in and love doing it...well, just because you do. Having a love for what you do causes you to happily go the extra mile and people recognize that at some level of their understanding and want to do more business with you.
Second, quit trying to be rich, especially by next month. Sure, it can happen, but probably not to you by next month. Enjoy what you're doing and let it grow.
Third, once you have become comfortable with running your new little business, quit worrying about what everyone else will think of you. Have enough confidence in your skills and innate abilities to make your own path and run your business successfully.
There you have it; some cold, hard facts. Are you discouraged from trying something on your own? Don't be. Just use your healthy sense of skepticism to not believe everything; but when you do find something, be sure it's something you love so you'll continue through the difficult times and maybe, just maybe you'll be one of the few who actually make it.
