Home Based Business – Your Success Is Determined By Your “Why”

Are you contemplating starting a home based business? Or have you already started one, but aren't having the success you had expected or hoped for?

Have you seriously considered "why" you wanted to start a home based business? There are many "reasons" to start a business from home, and if you don't truly understand your personal "why," you may not have what it takes to pull you through the rough times.

When I started my business, I was wanting to pay down the credit card debt and build a cushion so I wouldn't need a credit card, without leaving my home and children (whom I homeschool) to get a W-4 J.O.B. As time progressed - and as the kid have grown up (one still at home) - my "why" has evolved to include other things. My husband started building acoustic guitars, and almost on its own, his hobby is turning into a business. Now my "why" includes bringing him home from his W-4 J.O.B. to build guitars full time and help him build his business. His passion for guitar building fuels my "why!"

What is your passion in life? What do you dream about? What excites and distracts you? Do you want to be a stay-at-home parent? And homeschool? Do you want to do missionary work? Maybe you want to race in NASCAR! Or go to college? Perhaps build your dream house or travel the world! What floats your boat??? If money were no object, what would you do? Where would you go? What would you become?

Take a piece, or two, of paper out and answer these questions - your spouse or significant other should, too. Really search your heart! Don't just say, "To make more money." That is generally the outcome people in business are working toward, but it doesn't answer the question specifically. Get specific - be outrageous - but mostly, be honest and real with yourself, because to tell you the truth, unless you are just plain ornery and stubborn, you aren't likely to succeed in a home based business if you don't have a "why."

Your "why" must be a strong enough incentive to get up early with the alarm clock even thought there is no boss to dock your pay for being late. It must be important enough - to you - to keep doing the daily tasks you may not enjoy. You need to be passionate enough about your dreams, your goals, your objectives, that when you are struggling (and you most likely will at times), you'll be able to run the race with the finish line in plain sight, because your "why" is that worth it.

So, what is your "why?"
