Home Based Business - How Much Time is This Really Going to Take?

Building a Home Based Businesses is an interesting thing. I once asked a top internet marketer, "Why do so many people think they'll get rich overnight in a home based or network marketing business?" The answer - "Because that's what we tell them." Now to be clear, that's a fairly general statement and certainly most reputable businesses will go out of their way to tell the prospect that you most likely will not be an overnight success. Regardless, you CAN be a success, and far greater than you ever could be in a traditional job. So that begs the question, just how long is this going to take, and why? Let's look at three factors that determine the amount of time it will take for you to be a success in any home based or network marketing business.

Amount of Time Spent Working the Business

First and foremost is the question of time; as in are you working the business part time, full time or all the time? Most people consider the time concept to be one of available time, and that my friend is entirely relative. Both a person working a 9-5 job and a stay at home parent are working full time jobs. When it comes to the concept of working a home based business part time, full time or all the time, what you're shooting for is "all the time". What this means is that regardless of your other activities, you have a relentless focus on building your home based or network marketing business. This doesn't mean necessarily that you're prospecting your co-workers, but it does mean that you maintain a vigilant focus on getting tasks done required to build your business.

For example, if you commute into work on public transportation, do you sit there and read the newspaper, or are you reading a reading an empowering book, or spending time getting more familiar with your product? At lunch time (if you take it), are you going out with your buddies, or are you responding to prospect emails or returning phone calls to leads and making the best use of your time? You see, it's a mindset that you adopt. You focus relentlessly on the business and make sure that any available "free" time is spent working on it.

Amount of Time Dedicated To Training

If I'm a plumber, and I all of a sudden decided that I want to be an accountant, then I expect that I'll need to take classes for a period of time, maybe two years minimum and possibly more if I want to master my skills. It's not even questioned. But for some reason, most people think they can pick up the skills to master network marketing in a couple weeks. Keep in mind, you can start earning money right away, and with progressive dedication, you can increase that income. To be a top earner though, it requires some serious study. It requires a commitment to being the best. It requires reading, it requires taking online courses, it requires serious study and a lot of trial and error. There just simply is no way around that. Furthermore, what you'll find is the top earners have dedicated themselves to a life of learning. That's why they always have the edge and seem to be one step ahead. This is no different than the traits of some of the wealthiest people in the world. Ask them and they'll tell you that they never stop learning.

Reinvesting Profits Back into The Business

One of the simplest mistakes that any new home based business entrepreneur can make is taking in profits too early. Those initial profits should be used primarily for two specific reasons. First is your positioning in your business. If you came into your business at the entry level, then you redirect your profits as quickly as possible to moving yourself up to the top level product. All top income earners are positioned at the highest levels in their respective companies. That's because the commissions are highest there. The second use of your profits will be for marketing. You see, the key to a successful business is leads, and lots of them, and leads come from marketing. Now you may be operating on a tight budget to begin with, and even possibly zero, but as you make sales, it's imperative that you redirect that income back into marketing. More marketing = more leads = more sales. This isn't rocket science, yet it's amazing how many people miss that. Generally speaking, you shouldn't be taking out profits until you're earning at least $10,000 a month.

Building a successful home based business doesn't happen overnight, but it does and can happen. You may see some earners who seemingly came into a home based or network marketing business and within a few short months became the top earners, but what you most likely didn't see was the years of dedication spent in a previous business that had them build up the skill to be the top earner. There are no shortcuts. Rest assured though, the rewards are far greater than anything that can be achieved in a traditional job. If you're dedicated and focused, then you can and will succeed.
