About 18 months ago I began trawling the internet for home business / franchise opportunities as I was sick of the daily grind. After relentless hours of searching the only problem I faced was; of the opportunities out there, which were legitimate?
Trying to find an honest to goodness home business was like looking for the old needle in the haystack. In 2009 these haystacks are clever. They have claws that pull you in until you pay to get out...without the needle. I blame GM foods.
Fortunately I've learnt how to make money online along the way but I'd heard of massive incomes being made by people working in proper home business opportunities so, to investigate I had to come up with some criteria.
Firstly, the business had to be legitimate and there had to be products involved as we hear so many horror stories about gifting schemes or MLM schemes without products being sold. As we know pyramid schemes are illegal pretty much everywhere now and anything resembling them should be treated like The Plague.
Being able to contact a business representative is an absolute necessity as these days you will find that most opportunities are harnessing the the power of the Internet. Besides, before even entertaining such a venture, you should have spoken to a good few people involved in the business to gauge for yourself its legitimacy.
When in discussion, try to find a prospective sponsor and tap them for as much information as you can...forewarned is forearmed. This person should be able to answer your questions with ease. They should also be able to give you the lowdown on just how good the training and support is within the organisation or at the very least point you to it. ie their website. If they fob you off, walk away.
If they answer all of your questions and you are happy with how they deal with you, you may have found the sponsor for you. THIS IS A CRUCIAL POINT.
The worst thing you can do is get involved in a brilliant scheme only to find you are on your own. You will find it very hard to manage if you don't have the knowledge and support to hand. It could be the difference between your success or failure.
Now that you are happy with all of that then make sure that there are no nasty surprises in the form of hidden costs such as hosting fees, sign on fees, purchase of software etc.
One of the first things you would have looked at by now would have been commissions. This is a biggie when it comes to choosing a home business. To get that right and then find that all the extra fees will use up your marketing fund too soon would be a disaster...Back to square one!
Okay, so far so good but what sort of return on investment are you likely to receive? This is often overlooked by folk sucked in by the hype that often surrounds the next big opportunity.
If a business is going to cost you $2000 up front and has fees of $100 monthly then you really want to be generating sales pretty quickly to break even.
If the item you are selling is $1000 a time then $5000 a month income (5 sales a month) seems very reasonable but if you're selling at $250 a time then $5000 per month income may seem daunting so you must give this aspect lot of thought.
You are measured both by what you do and what you do not. Be proud of your actions and admiration will follow
